DISA Blog
Bringing the outside in.
Welcome to the DISA website! DISA is a community organization committed to celebrating diversity on campus. We wish to bring together the Denison community by raising awareness about multicultural issues, fostering a spirit of kinship through understanding. Contrary to popular belief, DISA membership is not restricted to international students, but instead welcomes and encourages all those who seek beyond.
Per our constitution, DISA's purpose can be summarized in four main points:
- To promote diversification of the Denison campus.
- To assist in the acclimation of foreign students to the Denison community.
- To be a voice for the interests of the international community and to support policies that promote those interests.
- To further international awareness on the Denison campus and in the greater community.
Or to put it more simply, we feel that DISA exists to promote a sense of international community on the Denison Campus. By international community, we mean to promote the concept that we all exist within a global community that is constantly becoming more connected and growing closer together. We see the Denison campus as a place with much potential for embracing the concept of a global community.
Therefore DISA works not only as a source of guidance for international students, but also as a bridge between international and American students. Furthermore, we work to bring together international students from all different backgrounds. To this end DISA works as an umbrella organization - collaborating frequently with other international groups on campus, such as the Asian Culture Club, La Fuerza Latina, and the Muslim Student Association. Our events cater to the entire Denison campus, in hopes that all students - whatever their country of origin - can take part in DISA's vision of an international community.
This year, we are also trying to get DISA more involved in issues of international concern. In the spring, we are promoting an entire week of discussion, cultural events, speakers, and debates focusing on international issues.
But of course, that's not all. Be sure to check out our calendar of events, as we have a lot in the plans for this year. Check out our photos and our blog (which we hope to update fairly regularly) to get an even better idea of what we're up to as the year goes on. We certainly hope to involve as many students as possible, so feel free to contact us at any time. DISA is one of the largest student organizations at Denison, but we are always looking to include more students. We are looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
- The DISA Exec Board
